1. Buy What You Enjoy
Just like with everything in your home, the things you own should attract you — you ought to love them! Art, in particular, is very personal, and every piece is supposed to evoke an emotion and a sense and be private to you. Most importantly, you need to really love the artwork that you select, so don’t buy anything just because it’s the right size or cost. Ensure you love it!
And don’t be reluctant to go in another way if you discover something you love. You may not understand why you enjoy something, or you might think that it’s from your comfort zone, however, don’t let this stop you.
Picking the right size is key, and every circumstance is different, but a general principle is for the art to fill 1/2 to 3/4 of the space. For modern art, consider going even bigger, since this art style lends itself to making a bold statement equally in terms of the artwork itself, but also the dimensions of the canvas. If large-scale artwork is not in your budget, consider using several, smaller pieces of art grouped.

3. Select Your Orientation
As a general guideline, select your art to match the shape of this room. Conversely, many people prefer to hang art over the couch, which can be a long rectangular area, therefore opt for a landscape flat orientation at a rectangular shape. A significant square wall can accommodate a square bit of art, etc. Have a look at the shape of the space you’re trying to fill and select the artwork of the exact same shape.
4. Determine Your Spacing & Height
If you are creating a gallery with several frames alongside one another, distance the frames 1 1/2″ to two ″ apart. Take this dimension into consideration before purchasing your art so that you know how much room you will have left for the artwork itself, and therefore, what size to buy. When it comes to hanging art, if it is hung too large, it can look quite awkward and take away in the beauty! Always hang artwork so that the centre of the artwork rests at eye level, around 65″, give or take.

5. Go past the Canvas
When looking for art to fill your walls, don’t limit yourself to print or canvas artwork. There are many types of objects that work nicely on walls and function as art, like tobacco baskets, quilts, mirrors, antique shutters, classic doors, and even architectural pediments! When shopping online, these kinds of things are usually listed under”Wall Decor” as opposed to”Wall Art” so you may need to correct your search a bit, but be open to each the choices before trying to find the ideal artwork for your area.

6. Select Your Color Scheme
The color of this art that you select is critical, as it ought to work with your home’s overall colour scheme and surrounding decoration.
1 word of caution: I would refrain from browsing online websites by color. In my experience, if you filter by colour, you’ll only see a fraction of the artwork available that might have colors that work to your home because when the retailer doesn’t tag its colour when they load it in their system, it won’t appear in your hunt! Additionally, occasionally, artwork gets tagged exclusively by the colour of the main picture, not the background. So for example, I was trying to find blue artwork and many bits were filtered outside that had a blue skies or blue rivers because they are considered secondary, but for me personally, those images would match my requirements.
I would have missed it when I had filtered by colour!

7. Set the Mood
The disposition of your art will impact the mood of your area, so be sure to take it into consideration for the room in which you’re going to be using it. For instance, contemporary art is often vibrant and high-energy, foggy riverbanks evoke a sombre atmosphere, critters can be whimsical, etc.. A gorgeous picture depicting a misty mountain could be the perfect size and color for your space, but if you are hanging it into a children’s playroom, it may not be the ideal energy for your space.
In all honesty, one of my favorite areas to locate artwork is HomeGoods, but as you may know with that store, the selection is either hit or miss. They have bits of all sizes and fashions, and the prices are unbeatable, but it is only luck if you come across just the correct thing for your home, which is the reason why I often shop online. Here are some of my favorite places to look for art, in no specific order.
Again, selecting home art sketch is very personal, but the objective is that you appreciate it and for it to be the right size, shape, and colour for your property. Are there any exceptions to the rules over? Obviously! What would life be without some sort?! But these tips should help get you started in the right direction to put the finishing touches on your space.
