1. Buy What You Love
Just as with everything in your home, the things you have should attract you — you ought to love them! Art, in particular, is extremely private, and every piece is supposed to evoke an emotion and a sense and be personal to you. Above all, you should really love the artwork that you pick, so don’t buy anything just because it is the right size or cost. Ensure that you love it!
And don’t be afraid to go in another way if you discover something you love. You might not understand why you like something, or you may think that it’s from your comfort zone, however, don’t let that stop you.
2. Determine Your Scale Size
Picking the proper size is crucial, and each situation differs, but a general principle is for the art to fill 1/2 to 3/4 of their space. For modern art, look at going even bigger, since this art design lends itself to creating a bold statement equally regarding the art itself, but also the dimensions of this canvas. If large-scale artwork is not in your budget, consider using several, smaller pieces of art sprinkled.

3. Select Your Orientation
As a general guideline, select your art to complement the shape of this room. Conversely, many people prefer to hang artwork over the couch, which can be a long rectangular space, so choose a landscape flat orientation in a rectangular form. A significant square wall can accommodate a square bit of artwork, etc. Look at the form of the area you are trying to fill and select the artwork of the same shape.
If you’re creating a gallery using several frames next to one another, space the frames 1 1/2″ to 2″ apart. Take this measurement into consideration before buying your artwork so you know how much room you will have abandoned for the artwork itself, and so, what size to buy. If it comes to hanging art, if it’s hung too large, it may look very awkward and take away from the beauty! Always hang artwork so that the center of the art rests at eye level, around 65″, give or take. When hanging art above a sofa or other piece of furniture, put the bottom of this frame anywhere from 6″-12″ over the furniture.

5. Go past the Canvas
When looking for art to fill your walls, do not restrict yourself to print or canvas artwork. There are so many types of objects that work well on walls and serve as art, like tobacco baskets, quilts, mirrors, antique shutters, vintage doors, as well as architectural pediments! When shopping online, these types of items are usually listed under”Wall Decor” as opposed to”Wall Art” so that you might have to adjust your look a bit, but you should be open to each the options before trying to find the ideal art for your space.

6. Select Your Color Scheme
The colour of the artwork that you choose is essential, as it needs to work with your house’s overall color scheme and surrounding decor. You can select artwork to blend with your walls, pick up an accent colour, tie your entire colour palette together, or perhaps stand out on its more common with contemporary art.
One word of caution: I’d refrain from surfing online websites by colour. In my experience, if you filter out of colour, you will only see a fraction of the art available that may have colors that work for your house because if the merchant doesn’t tag its color when they load it into their system, it won’t show up on your search! Additionally, sometimes, artwork becomes tagged exclusively by the colour of the main picture, not the background. So for instance, I was looking for blue artwork and several pieces were filtered outside that had a blue sky or blue rivers because they are deemed secondary, but for me, those pictures would fit my requirements.
I’d have missed it if I had filtered by color!

7. Set the Mood
The mood of your artwork will impact the mood of your room, so be sure to take it into account for the space in which you’re going to use it. A beautiful canvas depicting a misty mountain could be the perfect size and color to your space, but if you’re hanging it into a kids’ playroom, it might not be the ideal energy for the space.
In all honesty, one of my favorite areas to find art is HomeGoods, however as you may know with that store, the selection is either hit or miss. They have bits of sizes and fashions, and the rates are unbeatable, but it is just luck if you come across just the correct thing for your house, which is why I often shop online. Here are some of my favourite places to look for art, in no specific order.
Again, picking dark home art is very personal, but the goal is for you to love it and for this to be the ideal size, shape, and color for your home. Are there exceptions to the rules over? Of course! What would life be without a variety?! However, these tips should help get you started in the ideal way to place the finishing touches on your space.
