Design: Do not overcomplicate things
If you plan to build this yourself, or you are considering a way to keep costs down, keep things easy. A number of the most effective tiny houses are very simple architecturally; basically a box, with a flat or triangular roof. But in that space, every inch may matter a lot. So spend some time on making the interior space only right for your needs, not trying to design something complicated to look trendy in photos. Sophisticated roof angles, enormous windows and unusual design features will undoubtedly increase cost, complexity and the capability for you to build the home well yourself, so do yourself a favor and don’t become overzealous during the design phase.

Check to make sure that you’ve got enough clearance in tight spaces (like a hallway or kitchen in which people pass each other), especially if you are designing a home for at least 1 person. Better still, build some elements in 3D using cardboard (refrigerator boxes are great) to get a feel for space. You might find something which does not work for you, places where your body does not fit as you anticipated, and may then change the layout a bit before you get into the construction process and it is too late.

Design + Construct: Take your time, do things well
Go at your own pace in the design and preparation stage, as that is where you hope to capture and fix as many problems as you can. You can never draw a lot of floorplans! — And the extra time problem-solving early will create the true construction that a lot easier. You will still probably be solving many modest problems every day as you build, but with good planning and preparation, you can avoid the big ones. Do not just assume everything will match perfectly later on. Measure everyone, strategy each detail as best you can prior to any building begins.

In the construction phase, take time to do things well — do the research, assemble to best practices, and take those extra hours polishing and refining regions you’ll use or see daily. The space is so small; you can take additional care on making the house airtight for high energy efficiency, or invest a little more time on interior finishing to create an area that feels amazing indoors. Go the extra mile on a few special things you love to make the home feel distinctive and private.
Construct: Get if finished until you move in
In my experience, once I was done with the house, I rarely went back to change or fix anything. Yes, there will little updates, fixes and replacements over the years, however for the most part, I was too busy living in it, and the energy of this job had completely shifted. So again, have some opportunity to do it right the first time, and follow through [%100%|100 percent%] on everything before you proceed in.
I know many men and women who have taken the opposite approach, beginning with a nearly vacant weathertight shell, then only finishing the inside as they lived in the home, bit by bit. This will work well for some, but it complicates the procedure a lot. Therefore, in the event that you’re able to wait to finish all of the building — every tiny detail — before you start living in the house, I think that it makes for a much smoother process and much better final product too!

Be kind to your self
Designing and building a tiny house isn’t simple. Be kind to yourself and people around you while you proceed through this procedure, particularly the building stage. Should you build yourself, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be not only a physical challenge but an psychological and emotional one also. The huge time commitment and the several decisions and pressures along the way can be difficult on relationships if not handled well. So work your butt off, but also take the time to rest when necessary, and remember to be kind (on your own and others) no matter what happens.
